Description :

The modern world was born of German hunger, or at least the fear of it. From the birth of Germany in 1871, German statesmen, military leaders, and scientists fretted over the country’s substantial reliance on imported food. This talk uncovers the forgotten story of how German hunger was integral to the terrible tragedies of the twentieth century – chiefly, two world wars and the Holocaust – but it also touches on how Germans’ efforts to mitigate this problem led to positive outcomes, like the discovery of the Haber-Bosch Process and the creation of the European Union.
