The past few years have seen a significant amount of legal change, ambiguity, and upheaval within the law. Commentators have asserted that important precedents have been overturned, established doctrine has been challenged, and at times existing legal principles have been ignored by policy makers. While some look to the Supreme Court to steady the ship, others see the High Court as adding to instability within the law. This presentation will examine the current Supreme Court, putting recent issues into historical context and placing emphasis on cases from the 2025-2026 term.

Todd Collins, PhD, JD, is Steed Distinguished Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs and Director of the Public Policy Institute at Western Carolina University and a licensed attorney. His research focuses on constitutional law and judicial politics.
