Get into the holiday spirit while learning one of the most popular tools in the woodshop—the lathe! In this hands-on class, you’ll turn a simple block of wood into something beautiful and useful, all while learning to safely operate the lathe from start to finish. You’ll mount your wood blank, shape and smooth it, then sand and finish it to a warm, polished glow.

Projects vary by session and may include bottle openers, bud vases, candlestick holders, or other handcrafted treasures—perfect to give as thoughtful handmade gifts (or to keep for yourself, we won’t tell 😉). Along the way, you’ll gain confidence using the spindle roughing gouge and carbide-tip scrapers while learning key safety and setup techniques.

By the end of class, you’ll earn your DIYcave Lathe Certification and be ready to create your own turned masterpieces—just in time for the holiday gift-making season!

Refunds, Credits & Transfers

We understand that emergencies happen, so if you are unable to attend your class and you cancel with:

• More than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, you may request a full refund or transfer the full amount paid to another class.

• Less than 14 (fourteen) days notice before your class, your payment is non refundable. However you may transfer the amount paid, minus a 15% cancellation fee, to any class within 90 days of request. It is not guaranteed that a comparable class will be offered within 90 days.

• Less than 48 (forty eight) hours before your class begins, your payment is non refundable. It is extremely difficult to fill cancelled spaces with short notice.

• After class start date/time: No credits, refunds or prorating of fees will be given for missed portions or early withdrawals.

Changes or Cancellations

DIYcave reserves the right to cancel any class, limit class size, change class times or substitute instructors for those listed in the schedule. If a class is canceled, students may choose to receive a full refund or may transfer – with no fee – to another class or workshop. If DIYcave cancels for any reason, all payments can be refunded.

Notes : Please arrive for class in closed-toe, closed-heel shoes with socks that protect up to the ankle. Long hair must be tied back. Layers are encouraged as the shop can be very cold or very hot. If you have personal protective equipment such as your own safety goggles, please bring it with you. Otherwise, protective gear will be provided as needed.
