Description :

Marine Science Exploration ~ Secrets of the Seafloor: Benthos Discoveries
Dive into the fascinating world of benthic invertebrates as students explore the seafloor creatures living in the San Francisco Bay! Using a Peterson Mud Grab, students will work as a team to collect mud and bottom samples, learning how scientists study the benthic environment. At the mud grab station, they’ll deploy the tool and pull up invertebrates from the bay floor, using guides to identify whether the creatures are native or non-native species. Next, at the belly biology station, they’ll explore the invertebrate community living on the dock, discovering how these animals adapt to human-made structures. This hands-on day fosters curiosity and understanding of life beneath the surface and the importance of benthic ecosystems.
