This interactive educational session is designed to increase awareness and understanding of ovarian cancer among community members. Participants will learn why ovarian cancer is often difficult to detect, recognize common signs and symptoms, understand risk factors and prevention strategies, and explore current advances in research. The workshop aims to empower participants with practical, evidence-based information and connect them with trusted resources to support informed conversations with their healthcare providers.

Outline:

  • Why Ovarian Cancer Matters: Key facts about ovarian cancer in Canada and why awareness is important.
  • Recognizing the Signs: Common symptoms, why they can be difficult to recognize, and when to seek medical attention.
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: An overview of how ovarian cancer is diagnosed and the current approaches to treatment.
  • Early Detection: Why there is currently no screening test for ovarian cancer and promising research aimed at improving early detection.
  • Risk and Prevention: Who is at increased risk, hereditary ovarian cancer and factors associated with reduced risk.
