6 WEEK CLASS

This class is for those who can center 2-3 pounds of clay, consistently throw small bowl and cylinder shapes, and would like to move beyond the basics.Learn to throw more advanced forms; learn and refine handles, lids, and spouts.  Based on students’ interest, we may cover altering thrown forms, increasing size, creating multiples/sets, and more. Registration fee includes 1/2 bag of clay, glaze, and firing. Additional clay, glaze and firing is available for purchase, if needed.

6 WEEK CLASS

This class is designed for those new to wheel-throwing and anyone who would like a refresher on the basics. Thursday Morning Clay welcomes all who would like to explore an adventure into the world of ceramics. Claywork is a stress-relieving totally joyful time immersed in creating. The manipulative properties of clay make it a medium that is forgiving of mistakes while teaching the user patience in corrective measures. Vision and experimentation are keys to creating your vision. All levels will receive individualized instruction to strive for the desired project from your sketch, photo, or inner vision that we will bring to fruition. From simple trays or bowls to vases and mugs, we can do it all. This class is open to wheel-throwing and hand-building and promises two and a half hours of clay camaraderie. Need a weekly night out? Clay will fill the time with a relaxing flow of creativity and fun. This time in the studio will be driven by participant’s ideas and goals for success. Come to play and have fun by trying out new ideas you might have read about or seen on a video or in your imagination. Skills covered are centering, drawing up clay, vessel creation, trimming techniques, and glazing considerations informed by their own sources of inspiration. Open to ages 13-17.

This open studio is geared to ceramic artists who have experience and a vision to work on hand-building and glazing (no wheel throwing). This open studio will be offered on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. For those current students looking for additional time or for those of you getting back into ceramics this is for you! If you are a newcomer to VAC you must purchase the clay you will use in this open studio from us- firing and glazes included. Please note this studio time cannot be used as a makeup for a missed VAC 6 week session class but is designed to provide additional studio time for current intermediate students or experienced potters. 3 HOUR WORKSHOP

New series of 3 hour workshops on Fridays from 4/19-5/24. Learn a different ceramics technique each time. Come to one or as many as you want.  All skill and ability levels welcome!

Wheel Thrown Bowl

Beginners will learn how to throw a bowl on the wheel, while those with prior throwing experience may use the time to improve their skills.  The instructor will glaze your pot in the glaze of your choice, and you will be notified when it is ready to be picked up.  Class includes 3 pounds of clay.

Want to get your hands dirty and learn how to create amazing functional artwork? Wheel throwing is fun and therapeutic. Those new to wheel-throwing will learn the fundamentals of centering and throwing basic shapes. Students with experience will practice and refine their skills, including making handles and lids, and mastering various forms all while having a whole lot of fun! Registration fee includes 1/2 bag of clay, glaze, and firing. Additional clay, glaze and firing is available for purchase, if needed. No class the week of July 4.

Intended for those people who have a curiosity about the process but have never made the leap to try. The class approach is much like dipping your hand in the mud to check the temperature. All the basic skills of throwing simple vessels, including trimming foot rings are covered. Simple glazing techniques are introduced as well. This class is light, fun, and informative. This workshop is an opportunity to connect with your child, parent, sibling, aunt, grandparent, or any other family member through a fun and creative clay project. Learn ceramic hand building techniques through hands-on instruction to create your own ceramic object. This workshop is open to ages 6 and up. Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
