Camp Policies

Ratios are no more than 10 campers/children to 1 Camp Leader.  Camp Leaders work in pairs - additional Leaders and volunteer teenagers do not count towards our ratios. 

Camp Leaders have had criminal records checks, and must be fully vaccinated.  At least one of each pair of leaders will have active first aid certification. 

Camp Leaders can provide 1-on-1 support for instructions and to help children, but they must also be able to balance their attention to ensure all campers and their colleagues get the support they need.  Due to limited resources, Nanaimo Science camps are not well-suited to individuals requiring significant supports.

All participants must be in good health to take part in programs.  Please contact us if your child is sick.

Children must be willing to try activities and listen to camp leaders.  Behaviour between children must be respectful - any physical misconduct or actions that endanger others or themselves will result in parents being called to pick up their child immediately and cannot return to future days of camp.  Equipment used at Nanaimo Science must be used properly and as intended.  Children are expected to walk safely to outdoor locations as a group, and stay with the group at all times. Children must demonstrate appropriate behaviour and language and follow all safety instructions from leaders - warnings and redirections will be issued where possible, but repeated misconducts will result in parents being called to pick up their child and returning to future days of camp may not be allowed. 

Please share detailed information about any behavioural conditions with us prior to registration.  We do not recommend registering for full-day/multi-day activities as a first introduction to Nanaimo Science if there are any concerns (e.g. limited attention span, ability to self-regulate, separation anxiety, etc.).

Cancellation, Withdrawal and Refunds:

Customer cancellations or changes must be requested in writing.  Any change will be subject to a $25 administrative fee for each child/registration.

Cancellations/withdrawals requests submitted 14 days or more prior to the program start will be eligible for a full refund, less the administrative fee. 

Cancellations/withdrawals requests submitted 7-13 days prior to the program start will be eligible for a 50% refund, less the administrative fee. 

Cancellations/withdrawals requests with less than 7 days notice will not be eligible for any refund.

There are no pro-rated program fees for days absent from a registered program.

Nanaimo Science reserves the right to cancel a program one week prior to the start date, and will refund all fees for a canceled program.
