Description:

Dating back thousands of years, this ancient practice of ornamenting metal was one of the earliest used to create iconography on sacred objects.  In the 1900s the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain focused on authenticity
and revived embossed metalwork. And now we carry the tradition forward. In a jam-packed afternoon, we will first and most importantly we will talk about safety practices.  Their kit will include a basic tool, written reference material to take home, and how to evaluate the supplies and materials they might find in stores. There will be a sample of aluminum to practice on and a copper sheet for a final design.

We will start working by "playing around" on the practice metal, trying out different tools, and getting a feel for what the metal and different tools can do.

We will talk about how to design for metal relief work and how to transfer an idea to metal. And we will learn how to mount a finished metal plaque for display.

Whew!  A jam packed several hours!
