Description:
Poke it! Hook it! Punch it! Latch it! Tuft it! Old homes were cold and draft and resourceful people found clever ways to warm their floors. They also realized that some techniques adapted nicely to enlivening household linens and even clothing. In this action-packed workshop, we will explore classic techniques, play with a wide variety of tools, and be inspired by historical examples. There are no hard and fast "rules." You will go home with a sampler suitable for framing and which will inspire future fibre art projects. A basic backing material and a 12x12 inch frame will be provided and there will be tools for you to experiment with. We recommend bringing fabric scissors and a variety of crochet hooks, if you have them. All participants should bring scraps of fabric and yarn to experiment with.
"Rug Making 101" will explore a group of textile techniques including punch needle, latch hook, Scandinavian rhea knotting, and using a pokie. This workshop encourages opportunities to create textile art with conventional rug-making tools in new ways and incorporate new and unusual materials.
