Description:
Explore clay from every angle. This hybrid pottery class is perfect for anyone who wants to experience both the potter’s wheel and traditional handbuilding techniques. You'll have the freedom to create functional pottery or sculptural pieces using a variety of approaches, whether you're a total beginner or looking to expand your skills. In this class, you’ll learn: Come with a specific project in mind, or explore instructor-led ideas to help guide your creativity. You'll receive personalized instruction and the flexibility to work at your own pace—whether you're making mugs, planters, vases, or something completely one-of-a-kind. No experience necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty! Pottery is a wonderfully messy art. Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty—clay washes off easily, but we recommend bringing a towel for the ride home to keep your car clean. 🌀 Hybrid Pottery Class: Wheel Throwing & Handbuilding
• How to throw on the wheel: centering, shaping, trimming
• Handbuilding methods: coiling, slab building, using templates, and slump molds
• Surface design techniques, including texture and pattern tools
• Glazing and finishing to bring your pieces to lifeReady to Get Your Hands Dirty?

Notes: ***Glazing Disclaimer for Students At MadeBy Pottery Studio, all classes and workshops are centered around the creation of pottery using clay. It’s important to note that clay must be dried and fired before it can be glazed. The firing process typically takes about 2-3 weeks, depending on the size and thickness of the piece. Once pieces have undergone their first firing in our kiln, they are ready to be glazed. In workshops, glazing will automatically be done for you to ensure timely pickup and turnaround, unless prior arrangements have been made, which may incur an additional cost. For students enrolled in our 4-week classes, glazing is available after the bisque firing. You can return to glaze your work after your class session ends. This can be done during a regularly scheduled class time, open studio on Sunday, or you may opt to attend a specialized glaze application class. The specialized class provides guided assistance and deeper exploration of glazing techniques, and must be registered for and paid separately. If you prefer to glaze on your own after your class session, you will be responsible for the glazing process with limited instruction provided in video format. We recommend that all glazing requests and arrangements be discussed ahead of time to ensure smooth coordination. ***
Prerequisites: This class is perfect for beginners with no previous pottery experience or those looking to improve their wheel-throwing skills. If you're dedicated to refining your craft and developing your technique, this class is for you. *Must be at least 16 years old*
